09/07/02 – Purchased Car for Jason D Hoskins of Pontiac, MI Drove car home had approx 110000 Miles. Outside temp was 90 and sunny – car ran about 210 degrees. Oil pressure read 15 psi at cruising speed. The trip was approx 330 miles.

09/08/02 – 40 miles – Drove from My Mom's house to Lynne's in Aurora.
09/20/02 – removed pcv tube, spark plug wire mount and oil pressure tube for removal of the oil pressure fitting. I couldn’t get any tools on the fitting because it was butted up against the intake manifold. I was starting to damage it so I quit and put everything back together.
09/21/02 – replaced 180 degree thermostat with a 160 degree thermostat. Drove the car approx 15 miles – me and my brother. The car ran about 170 to 180 degrees but went up to about 205 while sitting in the garage. I vacuumed some mouse droppings and a dead cricket out of the valley of the intake manifold. This car must have sat for a long time.
| 09/22/02 – compression test, changed plugs. The old plugs looked good. | ||

| Discovered that the heat riser valve was not opening all the way – condensation was evident in right exhaust opening (on the ground). Disabled heat riser valve. The bent spring tab that the coil sprint pushes up on was flattened so that the spring would not catch on the retainer. | ![]() |

| Hooked up an oil pressure gauge using the line from behind the dash. The pressure was 30 to 40 psi – NORMAL. The in-dash gauge was re-attached. |
09/28/02 – Oil and filter changed. I used one quart of Risolene in case of sludge. New Drain plug gasket added. A replacement magnetic drain plug as purchased but the thread on it was goofy and it wouldn't catch the thread in the oil pan. The entire chassis was lubed and I cleaned years of grime on the oil pan and bellhousing - its still really dirty. The right rear UV joint fitting at the wheel was installed backwards and I had to remove one of the bolts to get at the fitting. The entire outside was cleaned with a spray type polish and waxed with this expensive stuff (guess why I bought it). The old seatbelts were in decent condition but were missing the latching mechanism. I ordered some new ones and replaced these (notice the 1964 date). The car cover is now in use and had Lynne took care of the antenna hole.
09/28/02 - 110,522 car driven approx 15 miles. Lynne and I went to Oberwiess for some ice cream. The car ran at 180 degrees and ran well with the outside temperature at about 65 degrees.
09/29/02 - Interior Vacuumed, dash, seats, and door panels cleaned and protected. Here's a before and after on the door panels. All of the weather stripping was cleaned with STP. The Vinyl behind the rear window was reattached with 3M spray adhesive. The old wax on the black fiberglass exhaust cover inside the aluminum side pipe covers was removed and cleaned.
| 09/30/02 - Discovered that there was an unused fitting on the carb. With the help of NCRS I found out that this is a cold air tube and is used on the bottom side of the choke tube to supply clean 9filtered) air to the choke tube. On the right is where it is supposed to go. |
The
part labeled "choke tube" is what I'm missing |

I don't have time to order the mounting stud or the hose so
I did a quick fix.(oily rag with rubber band) |

10/02/02 through 10/06/02 - drove 853 miles -odometer 111363 miles – Drove to and from St. Paul, MN. We brought the car to use in the wedding. The car drove well but since I changed to a 160 degree thermostat the heat wasn't as hot as it could have been. It rained hard the whole way there and there was water underneath both seats. On the way home the vent was closed and the window was closed and we didn't get an water. The air temperature was about 50 and at extended idle the car got to around 200 degrees. An oil leak developed at the filter - the leak stopped as the filter was tightened. Driver's side vent cable mount is broken and it will not close unless the sheath and cable is pushed. Also discovered a rear defrost cable that had been pushed up under the dash. It works but the mount that connects it under the dash is missing. No knocking, pinging, and no misfires. |

| 10/18/02 - 12 miles - odometer 111375 - Washed the car today. Hopefully its the last time it will ever get wet. |

10/19/02 – not driven - odometer 111375 - Polished the car again with Liquid Glass. The stuff is amazing. It says that the more you use it, the better the protection will be. It is not a cleaner wax so it is non abrasive. The instructions also say to put it in the hot sun to bake in the polish. It was pretty cold out so The car stayed in the garage - there wasn't going to be any baking going on.
10/26/02 - 7 miles - odometer11382 - Flushed the radiator and block. The fluid was pretty dirty and the block plugs came out easily. Even tough my radiator has a Harrison Aluminum radiator sticker on it I thin kit may be a copper/brass replica. I'll check into it later

11/09/02 - 8 miles - odometer11390 - Adjusted clutch free-play. It didn't feel quite right - it was solid as soon as you touched it. It now was about 1/2" of free play at the pedal which translates to about 3/16" on the clutch rod. Its a bit easier to drive now. I Also adjusted the choke and the fast idle settings. The choke plate was not all the way closed when starting and the fast idle screw wasn't even touching the fast idle cam. The car starts much better now but still needs a little adjustment - need some more RPMs at start and the choke was about 90% open when hot. Fuel still leaks out of the primary venturi cluster gaskets causing a flooded condition after sitting for more than a day.
11/13/02 - Got an old Carter Carburetor off EBAY. It looks identical to my 3721SA Carb. except for the choke tube is located in a different place. Is a 3508SA - nobody can identify an application for it but some believe its a general over the counter use type carburetor or a service replacement. Either way it will serve as a good guinea pig before I rebuild the original. It looks to be complete and everything moves smoothly except for the lever at the choke thermostat. Its probably gunked up with carbon.

11/17/02 - Borrowed a Kerosene heater from a friend for the winter. This will come in handy!
11/21/02 - Installed the choke clean air tube and housing. The picture in in the zip catalog was wrong and had me confused for some time. I forgot to disconnect the battery and had to fish this tube up along the cylinder head and underneath the exhaust manifold while trying to attach it to the bottom portion of the manifold. A metal tube in between the solenoid and a ground is not a pretty sight.
11/23/02 - 19 miles - 11409 - Nice warm day for Late November
